The Birmingham Bull, My Identity & The Story Behind My Brummie Artist Icon

The Birmingham Bull, My Identity & The Story Behind My Brummie Artist Icon

What It Means to Be a Proud Brummie

Being a Brummie isn’t just about where you’re from.

  • It’s a feeling.
  • It’s resilience.
  • It’s humour.
  • It’s community.

It’s pride in a city that has always been underestimated — yet continues to rise, evolve, and create.

Birmingham is a city of makers, of movement, of culture.

And I’m proud to be part of that story.

The Bull: A Symbol at the Heart of Birmingham

The Bull has long been a symbol of Birmingham.

Its roots go back to the Bull Ring markets, where for centuries, trade, energy, and life flowed through the city. The bull represented:

  • Strength
  • Commerce
  • Movement
  • Power
  • Community

Today, that symbol still stands strong — from the iconic Bullring sculpture to Ozzy the Bull at New Street.

But the meaning runs deeper than just a landmark.

The bull represents the spirit of Birmingham itself.

Bold. Resilient. Unapologetic.

Why the Bull Means Something to Me

As a proud Brummie, the bull isn’t just a city symbol.

It’s personal.

It reflects:

  • Strength through challenge
  • Grounded energy
  • Standing firm in who you are
  • Moving forward, no matter what

That energy is something I’ve always been drawn to — and something I wanted to capture in my work.

Creating the Brummie Artist Bull Icon

When I created my Brummie Artist icon, I wanted it to be more than just a design.

I wanted it to represent Birmingham.

So I built it from the city itself.

At the centre sits the Rotunda — one of Birmingham’s most iconic buildings. A landmark that represents transformation, reinvention, and modern identity.

Alongside it, the BT Tower — a symbol of connection, communication, and the city reaching outward.

Together, they form the structure of the bull’s head.

A fusion of:

  • Architecture
  • Identity
  • Symbolism
  • Place

This isn’t just a logo.

It’s Birmingham — reimagined.

Adding Colour: A Nod to My Caribbean Heritage

For my first design drop, I introduced colour in a bold, joyful way.

And that choice wasn’t accidental.

It was a nod to my Caribbean heritage.

  • To my parents.
  • To Jamaica.
  • To culture, vibrancy, and expression.
  • Because Caribbean culture doesn’t do muted.

It celebrates:

  • Colour
  • Life
  • Energy
  • Joy
  • Presence

By bringing that into my bull design, I wasn’t just creating something visually striking.

I was telling a deeper story.

A story of dual identity:

Birmingham × Caribbean

Structure × Expression

Strength × Joy

From Symbol to Wearable Art

This design became more than an artwork.

It became Wear The Bull — a piece you can carry with you.

Because the bull isn’t just something you look at.

It’s something you feel.

And now, something you can wear:

  • As a reminder of where you’re from
  • As a symbol of strength
  • As a celebration of identity
  • As a bold, joyful statement

More Than Just a Design

Everything I create has meaning.

Nothing is random.

  • The bull represents Birmingham.
  • The landmarks represent place and identity.
  • The colour represents heritage.
  • Together, they tell a story.
  • My story.
  • And maybe — yours too.

Why This Matters in Your Home (and Your Style)

Whether you choose the artwork or the jewellery, this piece is designed to:

✔ Start conversations

✔ Celebrate culture and place

✔ Bring bold, uplifting energy into your space

✔ Connect you to something meaningful

Because the best pieces aren’t just beautiful.

They mean something.

A City. A Heritage. A Story — Worn Proudly

Being a Brummie has shaped who I am.

My Caribbean heritage has shaped how I see the world.

And through my work as Brummy Artist Birmingham, I bring those worlds together.

  • Through art.
  • Through colour.
  • Through symbols that carry meaning.
  • The bull is Birmingham.

But this version?

This is mine.
