Bio
Hi, I’m Sandra—a pink-lipstick-wearing, leopard-print-loving Catholic girl, crime-fiction reader, and the creator behind Brummy Artist Birmingham. I create for people who love green spaces.
After 16 years designing lingerie, I traded lace for landscapes during lockdown, rediscovering the unexpected botanical beauty hidden within our concrete surroundings. Inspired by the meticulous paper-mosaics of Mary Delany and the iconic energy of Terry O'Neill, I blend urban grit with British blooms, turning cities into floral art.
Artist Statement
My artwork explores the symbiotic relationship between urban architecture and the natural world, turning cities into floral art by transforming familiar landmarks through a botanical lens.
Driven by the philosophy that beauty thrives in unexpected places, my work is dedicated to people who love green spaces and crave a deeper connection to nature within the town square. I aim to prompt a re-evaluation of our urban environment—seeing it not as a concrete barrier to the wilderness, but as a living framework that supports biodiversity and vibrant, organic beauty.
My Creative Process
My mixed-media collage practice begins on the pavement. As an avid urban explorer and nature walker, I capture both iconic city landmarks and overlooked botanical elements—from resilient wildflowers on derelict sites to curated parks.
I then integrate these original photographs with sourced imagery, effectively turning cities into floral art. Taking cues from the precision of traditional botanical illustrations and the striking contrast of classic portrait photography, I meticulously layer and juxtapose flowers, leaves, and trees against rigid architecture.
This layering process deconstructs and rebuilds the landscape. It creates a new, harmonious reality designed specifically for people who love green spaces, where flora is not just present, but dominant, celebratory, and beautifully alive.
