My Story

Hi there! I'm Sandra, I love flower's and I'm on a mission to create "Art that makes you blooming smile"

My floral art is all about bold colours, playful designs, and a whole lot of fun.

Why? Because floral art doesn't have to look like Grandma's sofa!

And those Parma Violets? Yeah, they're a little shoutout to my family name, Palmer.

Nature's Child

My love affair with nature began early. Growing up in Birmingham, I spent countless hours exploring the fantastic hill near my house, rolling in fields of wildflowers and weaving daisy chains in the summer sunshine. Even in school, a fantastic teacher sparked a lifelong curiosity about the natural world, encouraging our class to grow sunflowers and witness their incredible heights. These experiences continue to inspire my art today.

(Here's a photo of said hill! 💚)

From Bloom to Canvas

The Brummy Artist is derived from my home town “Birmingham” “Brum.” I combine collage and photography in my work by combining flower photos into modern images.

Each piece includes a hidden flower, a Parma Violet, a nod to my family - the Palmer's. I use photography of Birmingham's homegrown flowers to add a personal touch and meaning.

My art is bright, colourful and filled with flora that's designed to bring joy and a smile to your face!

The Brummy Artist Blooms

Yes, "Brummy" is a nod to my Birmingham roots! While some might see the slight misspelling as a typo, I believe it adds a touch of character. Art has always been my passion, from school days to my studies in photography, textiles, and even swimwear design!

The Brummy Artist truly blossomed in December 2023. After a decade in the fashion industry, I found myself turning to art for peace and mindfulness during a challenging time. Playing with photos, drawings, paintings, and collages of flowers from my garden and walks reignited a creative spark. I knew these vibrant blooms had to be the heart of my work, and so, the Brummy Artist was born.

(By the way, that's a younger me in the picture, revelling in the outdoors!)

A Disruptive Floral Artist

Turning on the TV at home. I noticed the world was consumed with grief and sadness. It seems in the past few years it's been more, and more.

I felt that there we all need our homes to be our sanctuary. Somewhere filled with love and joy! I searched but I couldn't find prints that included my love of flowers that had this vibe and feeling!

So I sat down and started to create my own art (now, with my signature floral collage crowns) that felt not only therapeutic, but also was uplifting, bright and joyful. That would bring smiles to "our" faces and makes our hearts sing (in a non-traditional way!) Making our homes that little bit brighter!

I create contemporary floral art perfect for nature lovers, flower enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a unique piece to brighten their home. My ambition is to be known as a disrupter, a floral artist who approaches the art form in a fresh and innovative way.

Did you know why?

There's an abundance of flowers in Birmingham!

One of the main reasons is back in the 1980s the then Prince Charles (now King Charles) visited Birmingham and called it a "Concrete city!" Since then there's been an effort to make it more green looking!

So when you travel around Brum, it won't look out of place to see: grassy roundabouts full of blooms, flats, and streets a mix of 60's and 70's buildings. Lots of trees and an abundance of wild flowers.

Thanks for taking the time to read my story!
