The Story behind the print
Sojourner Truth (c. 1797-1883) was an African American abolitionist and women's rights activist. Born into slavery in New York, she escaped to freedom in 1826 and became a powerful voice for justice.
Her famous "Ain't I a Woman?" speech, delivered in 1851, remains a landmark in the fight for equality.
Women should celebrate Sojourner Truth because she fearlessly challenged the deeply ingrained prejudices of her time.
She confronted both racism and sexism, demanding recognition of the humanity and rights of Black women.
Her courage and unwavering commitment to justice inspired countless others to fight for equality.
Truth's actions helped women and their futures by demonstrating the power of a single voice to effect change.
She exposed the hypocrisy of denying women, particularly Black women, their fundamental rights.
Her advocacy contributed to the growing movement for women's suffrage and laid the groundwork for future generations to continue the struggle for equality and justice.
